Well, here we go.
The headline reads:
His Jewish ‘Problem’: A Myth?
Notice the quotes and the question mark? They want you to think two things:
- Obama may have a Jewish problem. Read ahead to find out what it is
- It may be true in some people's minds
David Geffen, the Hollywood mogul who once backed the Clintons but turned to Obama, told NEWSWEEK that her campaign bears some responsibility for "an awful lot of disinformation" that sowed doubts about the candidate's support of Israel among "older Jewish voters in Florida."
Can we get more tortured than this? Far from reporting what David Geffen actually said, the article tortures and teases a narrative: some responsibility - who bears the rest of the responsibility? it doesn't say. Can we get any narrower in the supposedly offended demographic - Older Jewish voters in Florida. I mean, this is Florida we are talking about. Perhaps the younger Jewish voters all support Obama like younger voters everywhere else?
Perhaps younger voters don't even care that they are Jewish?
The rest of the article is simply a paean to Lieberman and a plug for his 'Citizens for McSame'.
Nothing in the story even remotely comes close to justifying a 'problem' for Obama. Certainly nothing that justifies that damning question mark after 'Myth'.
But there it is: the clear intended headline:
"Does Obama really deserve to be trusted by Jews?"
